Treatment Q & A
A. Your impressions taken at the records appointment are for study models. They become a permanent part of your records with us. If an appliance is part of the treatment plan, new impressions are taken during your consultation appointment to be sent to our lab to create your custom-made appliance.
A. In most cases, putting on full braces and going over the detailed instructions will take approximately one hour.
A. For your convenience, Braces by DiMassa uses top- of-the-line materials that actively work to improve your smile for eight-to-12 weeks. Because our excellent materials are so effective, patients enjoy fewer in-office appointments, without compromising a single benefit.
A. Our team is dedicated to your comfort and care throughout treatment. Everything is easy at Braces by DiMassa, and our treatment team is excellent! The entire team is well trained and very caring to make your experience relaxing and comfortable. Your braces will make your teeth tender for the first few days. You may want to eat softer foods, but your treatment will not interfere with school, work, or other activities.
A. You are able to eat immediately after leaving the office. Because of mild tenderness that night or the next day after your braces are put on, you may want to eat softer foods.
A. No. During your appointment when you begin treatment, your assistant will discuss and give you a copy of the foods that you should avoid while in treatment. In general, anything hard, crunchy, sticky, or chewy can damage your braces or appliance.
A. With the advances in whitening toothpastes, our office encourages you to NEVER whiten your teeth around your braces or appliance. When your appliance or braces are removed, the whitening could cause discoloration of your teeth.
A. With advancements in orthodontics, we no longer “tighten” your braces. Your appointments are to make adjustments to your braces or appliance, to check progress, and to change your wires. If you choose to have colored ties, those can be changed at each appointment.
A. Never!! Our team offers advanced orthodontic treatment that no longer requires patients to have to wear embarrassing head gear for any reason.
A. Heavier wires are key to your journey to a beautiful, straight smile. They allow us to add a different dimension of movement to your teeth and allow us to open and close space, as needed.
A. No. It is never safe to try to correct or alter orthodontic work yourself. Our office allows 20 minutes to fix a bracket and considers that a longer appointment. Before- and after-school appointments are reserved for shorter, quick appointments to maximize the number of patients at those high-demand times.
A. Every patient’s treatment time is different. Your estimated treatment time is discussed with you at your consultation appointment. Throughout your treatment, Dr. DiMassa will keep you thoroughly up-to-date with your progress. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask him. He is always happy to update you!
A. Once you have that beautiful straight smile, we want to be sure you keep it! It is in your best interest to start the retention phase of your treatment on the day your braces come off. Retainer impressions must be done prior to your braces coming off, so we make certain that your retainers are ready for you to wear home on the day of your deband.
A. Every appliance and retainer is custom-made just for you. We use very professional, sophisticated labs to make and repair all of our appliances. The labs require that we send them current models with all repairs to ensure an accurate, custom fit on the repair.
